How did the iLovetheBurg Downtown St. Pete® get its start?
The Facebook page was born out of sheer enthusiasm for the city during the depth of the "great recession" in May of 2009. It began as nothing more than a place to share information specifically for the downtown area of St. Petersburg. We introduced the "I Love the 'Burg" slogan in January of 2009, which was quickly adopted by users as our brand moniker.
How does iLovetheBurg Downtown St. Pete make money?
We have yet to be profitable and are pretty sure our efforts will never put any kids through college. The support of advertisers make it possible to employ a part-time reporter to assist in bringing the information you see here daily and help to cover hard costs, largely the part-time salary, quarterly printing of Pete magazine and expenses such as those incurred for food reviews. Soft costs, including daily involvement in content, creative, website maintenance and technology development are assumed by the Rearden Killion Communications agency. It is a lot of work, but we love the 'Burg.
What's the Goal of iLovetheBurg Downtown St. Pete?
To make our staff member full-time and enlist more contributions from the community so it can become the best hyper-local source of information about St. Pete, for enthusiasts by enthusiasts, possible.
Who is behind the iLovetheBurg Downtown St. Pete?
iLovetheBurg Downtown St. Pete is locally owned and operated right here in the 'Burg by the Rearden Killion Communications agency. If you like what we do, you can "Like" us on Facebook too!
How to Advertise?
There is a very persistent rumor that we charge for posts. While we do sometimes post news for advertisers, we reserve and have exercised the right to refuse content requests. Our sponsors make it possible to provide coverage to all of St. Pete and all kinds of businesses, including their competitors. We were approved for Google's ad platform for national advertisers but have purposely aimed to keep all advertising locally-based and therefore, rates are very affordable. Hence "powered by community." If you'd like to advertise, please contact us at 727-896-3435 or info@iLovetheBurg.com
