The Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest is back for its 2nd year! And iLovetheBurg/Downtown St. Pete is very excited to be judging this delicious event at the Morean Arts Center happening this Saturday, August 18, from 12-3pm. Who can resist tasting dozens and dozens of mouth-watering and unique flavors of cupcakes?! Can you say sugar high?
Last year's winner was Peanut Butter S'mores by Alita Kane and Jessica Bebee of Sugardarlings Cones & Cupcakes. It was our personal pick from elimination to the finals round. Other interesting and creative cupcakes were Wasabi cupcakes (don't be fooled because it has the hint of wasabi flavor minus the hotness! A-mazing.) The people's choice winner was the Irish Pubcakes by Lori Schmidt of the 'Burg!
Do you have your own amazing recipe you want to enter? There may still be a chance to enter. Check out the info below. There is however a limit to the number of entries after last year's tremendous response.
Looking forward to tasting those yummy treats! It's free admission to the public. See you there.
The Morean Arts Center is located at 719 Central Ave.

After an overwhelmingly successful Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest last year, we are happily bringing this event back on August 18.
The Morean Arts Center invites you to compete in a city-wide search for St. Petersburg’s BEST CUPCAKE. The contest will be hosted at the Morean Arts Center Galleries on Central Avenue, Saturday August 18 (which happens to be National Cupcake Day) from 12-3pm. A $15 entry fee allows each participant to enter one submission. A minimum of 12 delicious cupcakes are required for entry so that the judges can taste each submission.
Cupcakes will be judged on icing/frosting, flavor/texture and presentation/creativity for a total of 50 points, which allows plenty of room for edible creativity. The winner will receive bragging rights around St. Petersburg and the coveted handmade glass cupcake trophy made by our own resident artisans at the Glass Studio & Hot Shop. The winning cupcake will enjoy fame and fortune as a celebrity on the Morean website, Facebook page and city-wide media. Grand Prize winner announced at 3pm.
Although the cupcake trophy will be the coveted prize of the evening, there is also a People’s Choice award voted on by the attending audience. Participants in the contest are encouraged to bring sufficient quantities for the public to taste. Votes will be tallied and winner of the People’s Choice Award announced at 3pm. FREE admission for the public. $1 per vote collected to help support the Morean Arts Center’s mission of Connecting People with Art. Registration will be capped this year as a result of the massive response in 2011, so be sure and sign-up early!
For information or questions on how to enter the contest, please call the Morean Arts Center at 727.822.7872 or go online and download the entry form at
